2010 Governance
General Committee The General Committee is the highest governing body of Towards 2010 and is responsible for taking major policy decisions, including development of the ‘Message of 2010. It shall meet in 2007 and 2009 and hold regular telephone conference calls. The Committee shall be composed of approximately 20 members representing the following member organizations of Towards 2010:
(a) major groupings planning international missional events around 2010; (b) church associations involved in common missional conferences around 2010; (c) global mission networks; (d) church families that were not formally represented in 1910.
Member organisations will be requested to appoint representatives so as to achieve a fair geographical, gender and age balance in the membership of the General Committee.
The General Committee shall appoint from its membership an Executive Committee of 4-5 members representing at least four continents.
The General Committee shall appoint a Board of Reference consisting of a selection of Towards 2010 stakeholders (representatives of churches, organisations, study process, etc.).
The General Committee shall be responsible for the financial operations of Towards 2010, ensuring that operations under its direction shall be limited by the means placed at its disposal, beyond which no financial liabilities will be incurred.
Executive CommitteeThe Executive Committee is appointed by the General Committee. It will ensure implementation of the major policy decisions of the General Committee and oversee staff.
The Executive Committee will hold regular telephone conference calls and meet as required.
The Executive Committee will report regularly to the General Committee.
Board of ReferenceThe Board of Reference will function as an advisory body to the Towards 2010 process. It will not meet, but shall be consulted as required, and receive regular update reports.
StaffStaff consist of one full-time Coordinator in Edinburgh, and 5-6 part-time staff seconded by stakeholder organisations and located around the world, including the global south. 1-2 people representative of churches in Scotland attend staff meetings as advisors. Staff do not have policy making authority, they work within the policy directives of the General Committee and report to the Executive Committee. |
